PROCRSS

Based on the sketch in task 1, a poster was made:

I selected a relevant title and added a chat box behind the character, and added some malicious comments on it to show that the character behind is a keyboard warrior. After Mr. Fauzi's suggestion, I changed the original black keyboard to white and changed the color of the added logo to better fit the overall style of the painting.

This is my painting process:

Then I layout the title and slogan in the Illustration:

Mr. Fauzi suggested that I change the font to sans serif and the title to uppercase.

In order to make the picture more contrasty, I adjusted the color in Photoshop to enhance the contrast between the beam and the background, and further unified the tones.

Mr. Fauzi pointed out to me that the slogan at the bottom of the poster was not readable. He suggested that I place the slogan next to the character, so that the main line would guide the readers to pay attention to the text.

Final Work:

200-WORD RATIONALE

In the final work, I tried to change the original theme of the picture to oppose keyboard warriors according to Mr. Fauzi. I added many elements about the Internet, added malicious comments behind the keyboard warrior in the dark, added some broken keyboards beside the victim, and the keyboard and mouse on the ground symbolize the connection between the online world and the real world, suggesting that the victim may collapse due to online violence and even lose control of reality. For the protesters in the lower left corner, I chose the symbol of the Internet to express people's resistance to keyboard warriors and their pursuit of freedom of speech.

For the title of the poster, I chose "VIRTUAL WORDS REAL SCARS" as the title of the poster, conveying that malicious comments on the Internet will affect others and even cause harm, so we need to think twice before speaking. In terms of typesetting, I bolded the title to highlight the key points and strengthen the impact.

In terms of color, I hope to enhance the visual impact of the entire picture. I increased the irradiation area of the light beam and adjusted the contrast to make it more contrasty with the background.

The decisions made in your design:

In the work, I designed it as a poster. According to Mr. Fauzi's suggestion, I added a lot of elements about the Internet to the picture. In order to highlight the keyboard warriors, I added chat boxes and malicious comments, broken keyboards, mice, etc. in the background. Some Internet logos and slogans were added to the rebellious crowd. In order to enhance the contrast of the picture, I expanded the range of the light beam to contrast with the darkness of the background.
In terms of color adjustment, I first strengthened the brightness and exposure of the light beam, and then reduced the background brightness as a whole. Then, I made adjustments to unify the color tone.

The meaning/purpose of the design:

I chose "VIRTUAL WORDS REAL SCARS" as the theme of the poster to express that in the online world, we need to think twice before making any comments or statements. Although they are made in the virtual world, malicious comments can cause real harm to others.

The design principles that are employed to create the design:

  • Contrast: I enhanced the contrast between the yellow light and the black background to enhance the visual impact.
  • Emphasis: The victim is in the center of the light beam, which can focus the reader's attention.
  • Movement: The direction of the light can guide the reader's attention and make the picture dynamic. The movement of the crowd on the left also makes the picture more dynamic.
  • Symbol: In the crowd of resistance, symbols representing the online world are used. Broken keyboard and mouse are used to express online violence
  • Harmony & Unity: I unified the color tone of the entire poster into yellow and black.
  • Word and Image: I added the title "VIRTUAL WORDS, REAL SCARS" to express the theme of the poster, and added the slogan "Words Can Hurt. Think Before You Type." to call on everyone to think twice before commenting.

FEEDBACK

WEEK 5: Mr. Fauzi told me that my slogan at the bottom needed to be modified because it was not obvious enough.

WEEK 6: Mr. Fauzi suggested that I put the slogan on the main line next to the character so that it can guide readers to read.

REFLCTION

At the beginning of this task, I didn't know how to modify it, but with Mr. Fauzi's advice, I had an idea of how to adjust it to make it better. I think this task is very interesting and it made me try a lot.
