Illustration & Visual Narrative - Task 3 - Illustrated Typography Poster
07/11/24 - 29/11/24 (Week 7 - Week 10)
Next we use the name of the font to try using tools such as wrapping, gradients,
etc.

Class exercise:
In class, Mr. Hafiz instructed us on how to use Illustration for typography,
showed us how to use the text interweave tool and we learned to use the wrap
tool.

Then, we also learned how to use 3D effects. Mr. Hafzi showed us different 3D
effects and light source effects.
Task 3: Illustrated Typography Poster:
Refernce Board:
I referred to David Carson's work for inspiration, his poster fonts gave me a
hand-drawn style, and the contrast between the black and white and the colors
of the fonts gave me a strong sense of visual impact, so I wanted to add a
hand-drawn feel to the poster font style as well.

Production Process:
At the beginning, when designing ‘transcends’, I chose a 3D effect and
designed the letter N to be like a door, giving people a sense of
transcendence.
When typesetting, I will use font design to connect the font with the star
track, so that the reader's eyes can follow its track to read the poster. So
I used the overlapping tool to design.

I studied David Carson's work, and the font used in the poster tends to be
handwritten, which has a sense of contrast.
Mr. Hafzi and I said that I should take the ‘transcends’ one step further, so
I further modified the winding values in the 3D effect to give the reader a
sense of transcendence.
Final poster:
Summary of your design concept: This is a very famous line from the
film Interstellar: ‘Love is the one thing we're capable of perceiving that
transcends dimensions of time and space.’ I chose this line because it
tells us that love can transcend all limitations and gives us the power to
be brave, and it is because of love that Cooper and his daughter can break
through time and space and dimensions to save each other in the film. I
hope to use this quote to show that love has great courage and power and
that we need to be brave to do whatever we want to do.
When designing the poster, I will combine the performance techniques of
the movie to create the poster, using many cosmic elements to express the
things that love transcends. I studied David Carson's works, and the
poster uses a font that tends to be handwritten, which has a sense of
contrast. When typesetting, I will use font design to connect the font
with the star track, so that the reader's sight can follow its trajectory
to read the poster. The transcendence in the middle, I express
transcendence by combining the reader's sight. When we look at the eyes in
"N", the sight is transcendence.
Reflection
Learning more about Photoshop and Illustrator while completing this poster
design, this poster design can better expand our thinking and creativity. I
should know how to better show what my poster is trying to say and make a
better combination of title and image.
