INSTRUCTION
Project 1-Instructable Poster
Instructable Infographics poster:
An infographic poster for ONE recipe selected from Pasta Grannies @
https://www.youtube.com/user/pastagrannies/videos
Study one video, breakdown and chunk the preparation and cooking process
into an instructable poster. Try to capture each Grandma’s personality and
unique dish identity in your poster as part of the narrative structure.
Poster size: 1240 × 1750 pixels or 2048 × 2048 pixels
The video I chose is: Anna makes easy gnocchi with a Neapolitan
ragù! | Pasta Grannies
For the ragu:
150g stewing beef
150g pork
150g pork ribs
oil
half an onion
a glass of white wine
a pinch of sugar
600ml passata
a couple of basil leaves
a pinch of salt
For the gnocchi:
800g flour
900ml hot water
a pinch of salt
To serve:
300g smoked provola cheese
grated pecorino cheese
Cooking steps:
Step 1: Prepare the Gnocchi
Boil one liter of salt water, then pour one kilogram of flour into the pot and knead the flour until smooth. Divide the dough into small pieces and rub them with the back of a cheese grater.
STEP 2: Prepare the Neapolitan Ragù
Prepare 150 grams of beef and pork, wash them, put the beef and pork into a pot and stir-fry them, then add half an onion, then pour in half a cup of white wine and a whole can of tomato juice, and finally add a pinch of salt and sugar, and simmer for 45 minutes.
STEP 3: Complete the gnocchi with a Neapolitan ragù
Mix the pasta and meat sauce together, and finally garnish with shredded cheese.
Poster Design:
I looked at many food information posters online for inspiration and reference. Here are some of the reference posters I found:

Illustration process:
I found relevant ingredient reference images online, and then I used these
images as a reference to create my material illustrations in
Procreate.

Painting process
After finishing the painting, I used Photoshop to select the subject.
These are the illustration elements I used.
Fig 1.6 Food illustrations
This is the first version of the poster I created. Mr. Kannan gave me
feedback, saying that adding lines was meant to make the poster more
organized, but my lines now look a bit messy, and the title also needs to be
revised.
Fig 1.7 First version of the poster
Next, based on Mr. Kannan's feedback, I made further adjustments. First, I changed the font of the poster; the title used Peace Sans, the subtitle used Salsa, and the food preparation steps used Roboto.
Next, I finalized the color scheme for the poster.

FEEDBACKS
WEEK 6: Mr. Kannan pointed out to me that the lines added to the poster needed to be removed, as the current lines did not make the poster more organized.
WEEK 7: Mr. Kannan reminded me that I needed to add the explanation "Mix them together" in the last step.
REFLECTION
Experience:
In the food poster project, I chose a video about the process of making Neapolitan meat sauce potato dumplings. All visual elements on the poster had to be hand-drawn, which increased the difficulty of the creation. I spent a significant amount of time drawing the ingredients and cooking steps to ensure the image was clear and appealing.
Observation:
I found the drawing process quite difficult and time-consuming, especially in balancing detail and clarity. While detailed illustrations enhanced the visual appeal, careful layout planning was also necessary to avoid making the poster appear cluttered. Furthermore, thanks to Mr. Kannan's reminder, I learned that the guidelines on the poster should be presented in an organized manner and not added arbitrarily.
Reflection:
This project helped me understand the importance of balancing creativity and information design. Despite its challenges, it improved my patience and enhanced my ability to create visually appealing and informative posters.
